Mankind was one single nation, and Allah sent Messengers with glad
tidings and warnings; and with them He sent the Book in truth, to
judge between people in matters wherein they differed; but the People
of the Book, after the clear Signs came to them, did not differ among
themselves, except through selfish contumacy. Allah by His Grace
Guided the believers to the Truth, concerning that wherein they
differed. For Allah guided whom He will to a path that is straight.
[2:213]
The Religion before Allah is ISLAM (submission to His Will): Nor did
the People of the Book dissent therefrom except through envy of each
other, after knowledge had come to them. But if any deny the Signs of
Allah, Allah is swift in calling to account. [3:19]
The same religion has He established for you as that which He
enjoined on Noah - the which We have sent by inspiration to thee -
and that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that
ye should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions
therein: to those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the
(way) to which thou callest them. Allah chooses to Himself those whom
He pleases, and guides to Himself those who turn (to Him). [42:13]
To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that
came before it, and guarding it in safety: so judge between them by
what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires,
diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you
have we prescribed a law and an open way. If Allah had so willed, He
would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in
what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The
goal of you all is to Allah. it is He that will show you the truth of
the matters in which ye dispute; [5:48]
We have sent down to thee the Book in truth, that thou mightest judge
between men, as guided by Allah. so be not (used) as an advocate by
those who betray their trust; [4:105]
We have explained in detail in this Qur'an, for the benefit of
mankind, every kind of similitude: but man is, in most things,
contentious. [18:54]
Verily We have revealed the Book to thee in Truth, for (instructing)
mankind. He, then, that receives guidance benefits his own soul: but
he that strays injures his own soul. Nor art thou set over them to
dispose of their affairs. [39:41]
We have not sent thee but as a universal (Messenger) to men, giving
them glad tidings, and warning them (against sin), but most men
understand not. [34:28]
We have put forth for men, in this Qur'an every kind of Parable, in
order that they may receive admonition. [39:27]
And such are the Parables We set forth for mankind, but only those
understand them who have knowledge. [29:43]
So warn mankind of the Day when the Wrath will reach them: then will
the wrong-doers say: "Our Lord! respite us (if only) for a short
term: we will answer Thy call, and follow the apostles!" "What! were
ye not wont to swear aforetime that ye should suffer no decline?
[14:44]
"And swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men, nor walk in insolence
through the earth; for Allah loveth not any arrogant boaster. [31:18]
Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is from Allah. but whatever
evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul. and We have sent thee
as an apostle to (instruct) mankind. And enough is Allah for a
witness. [4:79]
If it had been thy Lord's will, they would all have believed,- all
who are on earth! wilt thou then compel mankind, against their will,
to believe! [10:99]
Do ye enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget (To practise it)
yourselves, and yet ye study the Scripture? Will ye not understand?
[2:44]
Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from
Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the
most trustworthy hand-hold that never breaks. And Allah heareth and
knoweth all things. [2:256]
If thy Lord had so willed, He could have made mankind one people: but
they will not cease to dispute. [11:118]
The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and
insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right
and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous. [42:42]
Every man's fate We have fastened on his own neck: On the Day of
Judgment We shall bring out for him a scroll, which he will see
spread open. [17:13]
The Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for, [79:35]
That Day will Man be told (all) that he put forward, and all that he
put back. [75:13]
And man cries (distressed): 'What is the matter with her?'- [99:3]
And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man
remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? [89:23]
Does man think that he will be left uncontrolled, (without purpose)?
[75:36]
Verily Allah will not deal unjustly with man in aught: It is man that
wrongs his own soul. [10:44]
What Allah out of his Mercy doth bestow on mankind there is none can
withhold: what He doth withhold, there is none can grant, apart from
Him: and He is the Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom. [35:2]
If Allah were to hasten for men the ill (they have earned) as they
would fain hasten on the good,- then would their respite be settled
at once. But We leave those who rest not their hope on their meeting
with Us, in their trespasses, wandering in distraction to and fro.
[10:11]
If Allah were to punish men according to what they deserve. He would
not leave on the back of the (earth) a single living creature: but He
gives them respite for a stated Term: when their Term expires, verily
Allah has in His sight all His Servants. [35:45]
If Allah were to punish men for their wrong-doing, He would not
leave, on the (earth), a single living creature: but He gives them
respite for a stated Term: When their Term expires, they would not be
able to delay (the punishment) for a single hour, just as they would
not be able to anticipate it (for a single hour). [16:61]
Allah doth command you to render back your Trusts to those to whom
they are due; And when ye judge between man and man, that ye judge
with justice: Verily how excellent is the teaching which He giveth
you! For Allah is He Who heareth and seeth all things. [4:58]
And remember Allah took a covenant from the People of the Book, to
make it known and clear to mankind, and not to hide it; but they
threw it away behind their backs, and purchased with it some
miserable gain! And vile was the bargain they made! [3:187]
There is the type of man whose speech about this world's life May
dazzle thee, and he calls Allah to witness about what is in his
heart; yet is he the most contentious of enemies. [2:204]
And yet among men there are such as dispute about Allah, without
knowledge, and follow every evil one obstinate in rebellion!
[22:3]
But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without
knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and
throw ridicule (on the Path): for such there will be a Humiliating
Penalty. [31:6]
And there is the type of man who gives his life to earn the pleasure
of Allah. And Allah is full of kindness to (His) devotees. [2:207]
Of the people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the
Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe. [2:8]
There are among men some who serve Allah, as it were, on the verge:
if good befalls them, they are, therewith, well content; but if a
trial comes to them, they turn on their faces: they lose both this
world and the Hereafter: that is loss for all to see! [22:11]
Then there are among men such as say, "We believe in Allah.; but when
they suffer affliction in (the cause of) Allah, they treat men's
oppression as if it were the Wrath of Allah. And if help comes (to
thee) from thy Lord, they are sure to say, "We have (always) been
with you!" Does not Allah know best all that is in the hearts of all
creation? [29:10]
It is not (possible) that a man, to whom is given the Book, and
Wisdom, and the prophetic office, should say to people: "Be ye my
worshippers rather than Allah's": on the contrary (He would say) "Be
ye worshippers of Him Who is truly the Cherisher of all: For ye have
taught the Book and ye have studied it earnestly." [3:79]
Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as
equal (with Allah.: They love them as they should love Allah. But
those of Faith are overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the
unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to
Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce the penalty.
[2:165]
Those who conceal the clear (Signs) We have sent down, and the
Guidance, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book,-on
them shall be Allah's curse, and the curse of those entitled to
curse,- [2:159]
So set thou thy face steadily and truly to the Faith: (establish)
Allah's handiwork according to the pattern on which He has made
mankind: no change (let there be) in the work (wrought) by Allah;
that is the standard Religion, but most among mankind understand not.
[30:30]
